I have not been a fan of Samsung’s phones so far. Cheap, plasticky hardware, horrendous TouchWiz UI, and a confusing line-up of similarly-named phones have all made me stay far, far away—even from the Android phones. But I’m a sucker for a slide-out QWERTY, and when HTC just doesn’t seem to be delivering them anymore, then it may be time to consider other brands.
Like Samsung—whose upcoming Epic 4G is said to have a “very smooth” keyboard, with firm, raised keys. My feelings on Samsung’s hardware could be well justified again, I thought that it felt very plastic like —the Epic 4G is made of plastic as well, but the larger build.
Shorter, more narrow, and thicker than HTC’s EVO 4G (but this is with a slide-out keyboard, obviously), the screen is “gorgeous,” and there’s a 5MP camera on the back with 720p video recording, and a front-facing camera for video-chatting at VGA resolution. The processor is thought to be an ARM Cortex A8 clocked at 1GHz, and there’s 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of ROM.
Other details that I found out is that it was loaded with Android 2.1, slicked over with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 UI. That could indeed be the deciding factor, though you could try your hand at uninstalling it. Last but by no means least, there is confirmed 4G is on board, with “Sprint TV [working] fine over 4G, 3G and Wifi.”
