This year Toshiba plans to release an Android powered tablet with a 10 inch form-factor much like the iPad and Wepad and with a lower price tag. It will focus on users that consume media such as picture, music and videos and potentially ebooks.
Toshiba’s general manager of digital products, Jeff Barney stated to Reuters, “We definitely see a place for the slate, we see there’s a market there. It’ll be expansive like netbooks, it won’t be cannibalistic.” Barney also mentioned that they [Toshiba] are in talks with a number of partners to bring content to this device as well stating “Media consumption on these slates will be the main user activity,” and that this Android device would be able to tap into the thousands of programs offered in the Android market. Â Toshiba has not announced any release dates or pricing for this tablet so we will have to wait to receive any new information about this product.
