U.S. Customs clears ‘some’ HTC smartphones for final Destinations

While most, if not all of us, were a little perturbed by the events that transpired with Apple and HTC, it seems the conflict is being resolved quicker than any of had hoped. Having something stuck in customs can take weeks, months or even years sometimes before they get cleared. Seems an official statement from HTC lets us all know that some devices have been cleared and are already at they telecom partner locations. That is some great news. We know the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE were the devices in question. While HTC didn’t confirm which models or the number of devices that were let loose, it is a start.

Apparently custom’s agents have to review every single handset before it can be cleared. That seems like quite the undertaking and waste of resources to us. It also means that your new device has already been turned on and checked out by someone else. That is a little creepy.

“Each imported HTC model must be reviewed by Customs and will be released once Customs officials have completed the inspection.  Some models have gone through inspection and been released to our carrier customers.  We don’t have the status of each specific device model at this time, but we are working closely with Customs. We remain confident that this issue will be resolved soon.”
