This is, in my opinion, a big win for the Android OS and it shows just how versatile Android really is. I don’t see reports of the iPhone partnering up with the military, do you?
Raytheon, markers of the Patriot missile defense system, have partnered up with Google, Motorola and HTC.  They are working together to see if the Android OS can help the troops gain valuable on field information when it’s needed.  We already have Google Maps with satellite imagery, but being able to tap into the military GPS Satellites and get real time images of the field, in front of a soldier, would be extremely beneficial. There are talks of Android tapping into drone aircrafts video feed and allowing the soldier to view the video feed coming from the drone live as well.
Raytheon is also developing software encryption and a ‘social warfare’ integration that will allow soldiers to interact with each other.  Which would help locate potential targets or threats. The U.S. Army, U.S. Special Forces and Indian military are all potential testers and users of the new technology.
This partnership, or I should say Military Contract, really shows how flexible the Android OS really is. They are tapping into markets the iPhone could never break into.
Side note: The Patriot is a long-range, all-altitude, all-weather air defence system to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced aircraft.
