Universal 1-Click Root App for Android Devices

1-Click root has never been easier or more widely available (on about a dozen Android devices so far) until NOW!

A newly released app, Universal Androot, lets you root and unroot your phone with the click of a button. One good thing about this app is that you can still get OTA software updates after rooting your device. This is because apparently, the rooting method doesn’t affect the bootloader. The other cool thing about this app is that it supports a wide range of Android devices…and that list appears to be growing!

According to the developer, the app uses the same exploit that was used to root Droid X.  It’s been known to work well so far.

Devices currently supported:

  • Google Nexus One (2.2)
  • HTC Hero (2.1)
  • HTC Magic (1.5)
  • Dell Streak (2.1)
  • Motorola Milestone (2.1)
  • Motorola XT701
  • Motorola XT800 (2.1)
  • Motorola ME511
  • Sony Ericsson X10 (1.6)
  • Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro (1.6)
  • Acer Liquid (2.1)
  • Vibo A688 (1.6)

Devices not yet supported:

  • Samsung i9000 (Galaxy S)
  • Samsung i6500U
  • HuaWei U8220
  • HTC Desire / Legend / Wildfire

It might not be too long before we see support for more devices.

This app is not on the Android Market but you can grab the latest version of Universal Androot from the XDA-Developrs website. The developer’s blog appeared to be down at press time.  Any updates on the developer’s page can be posted in the comments section of this post.

If you have not rooted your device then now is the time. Let us know how well the app worked for you.
