VAIO smartphone to be announced on March 12th

We heard a rumour just before the new year that VAIO was going to develop its own smartphones to be announced at CES 2015. While that didn’t eventuate, it appears that March 12th has been marked as a new date for when a VAIO smartphone could be announced. If you’re a little confused as to what’s going on, you may remember that sometime last year Sony sold off its PC division, known to us as VAIO. As it turns out, VAIO wants to have its own go at smartphones, and its first, with a possibility of more, is pegged for announcement next month.

Said device has been spotted on benchmarking sites and is said to carry the model number JCI VA-10J and will house a 64-bit Snapdragon 410, 2GB RAM, 5-inch 720p display and will be running Android Lollipop. While it’s not anything to start jumping up and down about, it does look like a very solid mid-range contender, one which would compete directly with Motorola Moto G, the king of this market. We’ll just have to wait and see if VAIO shows us the goods come March 12th.
