Verizon: We will give you notice of plan changes before we spring them on You

Yesterday we made the announcement that Verizon will be making changes to their data plans this summer. While changes are to be expected, it was the information that they would be doing away with grandfathered unlimited plans going forward. In short, that means if you upgrade after the changes, you wouldn’t be allowed to keep your unlimited data plan any more. There will always be certain circumstances and reasons that some will still be allowed too, but in general you would be asked to change your plan. Needless to say this didn’t go over to well with current customers.

Verizon took a little time to prepare a statement to help put some people at ease. While it doesn’t say that they have changed their minds on the matter, they are at least reassuring everyone that they will make an official announcement and specifics available before the changes go into effect. Giving you time to re-evaluate your service and your choices before you have no other choice in the matter. It looks like nothing is going to happen for a little while at least. However, the changes seem to be in conjunction with the launch of the family shared data plans. Be on the look out for that announcement to get a better idea of when they plan to make others.

As we have stated publicly, Verizon Wireless has been re-evaluating its data pricing structure for some time, Customers have told us that they want to share data, similar to how they share minutes today. We are working on plans to provide customers with that option later this year.

We will share specific details of the plans and any related policy changes well in advance of their introduction, so customers will have time to evaluate their choices and make the best decisions for their wireless service. It is our goal and commitment to continue to provide customers with the same high value service they have come to expect from Verizon Wireless.
