Video calling on HTC EVO 4G

I honestly had been missing the point of video chat on the HTC EVO 4G but I think that’s been cleared up. After a quick demo of video calling using Skype via the preloaded Qik app, it seems much more reasonable. Don’t wanna get out of bed to V-Chat or at the local Starbucks grabbing a cup of coffee, or maybe even being adventurous and grabbing some frozen yogurt, you can simply whip out your phone and make a video call to your friends. I would tend to think it would lag, but on 4G maybe it won’t. Although you may look a bit strange talking to your phone that’s sitting on a table in the middle of Starbucks.

It all sounds fine and dandy but unfortunately it’s not as good as it sounds. Qik intends to charge customers $5 a month to make video calls, which is the quick-no pun intended- solution for now. Hopefully this will encourage more third party apps and possibly the official Skype app will support it for free. That EVO 4G may not be so wonderful when it’s time to pay the bills, with all the additional features.
