VTL.Launcher – It’s Like ADWLauncher, but for your Tablet

With the tablet market expanding at a rapid rate, it is important for us to also share something that is not just for a 4″ screen. I ran across this launcher a few months ago and saw it had a lot of potential in the tablet market. As great as some of our current home replacement apps are, they lack tablet optimization. It’s not the devs fault, tablets kinda snuck in and have so many various versions running around, it’s hard to predict what will happen.  The larger screen size promotes a new set of rules and challenges. Do I have complete faith in our devs for future support? Absolutely! Right now though I think there are enough tablets running around that a good launcher built for them might go a long ways.

The developers behind this launcher call themselves VT-Lab. The application is called VTL.Launcher. It is based off the hard work of Anderwebs ADWLauncher application. With that in mind you already know this application is great. Unlike other 3rd party launchers that are available, this one is also compatible with most ADW themes. Which adds yet another reason you should pick this up. The feature list is almost to large for me to post and feel comfortable about making you sit through. Here are just a few key features that stand out to me.

Features

– 3 individually configurable/toggleable scrollable dock bars designed to maximize tablet layouts
– quick action items menu when long pressing apps, folders and widgets.
– 1 to 7 homes screens with sense-like previews
– long-hold uninstall on trashcan
– moveable trashcan
– hide homescreen icon labels
– scrollable widget support
– live wallpaper support
– fullscreen mode

Starting to sound a lot like ADW isn’t it? But wait there’s more!

-The Ability to Add/Remove the Bottom Dock. Side Docks Expand to claim the gap left.
-Individual Dock Controls for Background/Reflection.
-Icon Changing for User Folders. New Icons then show up on desktop and in Docks.
-Quick Action Item to choose Catalog.
-Quick Action menu capability to the app drawers. Long press any icon in drawer and don’t move it.

The team is currently working out some kinks with the application when using it on a Honeycomb tablet. From the comments about the app, even with its small quirks, it still runs really well on Honeycomb though. It is primarily designed for any tablet running Android 2.1/2.2. I know some of you may have older OS versions, but I haven’t heard of this running on them as of yet. Take a look at this video review if you still aren’t impressed, because you will be.
