Vodafone wishes to be your only official update source and if you choose otherwise, you’ll void your warranty. In the Vodafone support forums, Vodafone has stated:
Firstly to see our Firmware statement click here, we cannot elaborate on this anymore. The eForum staff have nothing to do with developing/testing/releasing the firmware, this is handled by none customer facing teams.
Regarding Warranty, you will have a warranty with Samsung separate from your Vodafone warranty. Our warranty allows you to get faulty handsets repaired through us even if you don’t have insurance on the condition that your phone is running Vodafone approved software and it is within your contracted period.Â
Apologies if this is not the answer you wanted however we are not involved in the firmware process at all, nor can we release any information that has not been officially released by Vodafone.Â
If you accept an update from Samsung directly and Vodafone has not approved it, your warranty is now void. This current issue was sparked from Galaxy S users in Vodafone’s forums who are discussing recently released official Samsung Galaxy S firmware via KIES. If you upgrade your firmware through Samsung, you will still have your manufacturer’s warranty, just not the warranty Vodafone provide. Want in on the discussion? Check out Vodafone’s forum.
