Wikipedia Enables Mobile Editing

Wikipedia announced support for mobile editing today. The Wikimedia Foundation released an experimental beta site for editing, photo uploads and watchlists back in January.

With 15% of users accessing Wikipedia on mobile devices, the Wikimedia Foundation wanted to give mobile users the chance to contribute. The company hit 3 billion mobile page views, stating mobile page views rose over 75 percent in 2012.

Starting out, you will need to create a Wikimedia account by signing up on desktop or mobile. Once you are signed in, use the pencil icon next to each section to edit the material.

The first release focuses on markup editing, with the primary goal of a “fast, intuitive editing experience for new users and experienced editors alike.” Future updates may include a Visual Editor and additional features based on the kinds of edits people make on mobile.

The Wikimedia Foundation asks for any kind of feedback or possible suggestions for future releases. You can contact them on Twitter @WikimediaMobile.
