One of the big pushes for the EVO is its ability to have up to 8 devices tethered to it. With that feature comes a price, $30 to be exact. But if you are one who is looking to take advantage of those 4G speeds on other devices without having to pay that hefty fee, here is a solution for you. It is now possible to get that same tether feature for free. If you are one of the EVO 4G users that has already rooted the handset, you can grab an app that allows unlimited WiFi and Bluetooth tethering. The app is called Wireless Tether for Root Users and obviously to enjoy it, you have to root the handset.
One thing to note is that Sprint’s tether app supports WPA/WPA2 where the free app just has WEP. However the free app does included MAC address security too. This is still easy to get around. But for someone to typically have all the necessary tools to break this encryption I don’t see being very likely.
Head over to android-wifi-tether’s download page and download a version that is at least 2.0.2.pre14 This is were they got the EVO to work.
