Xperia Play steps into the limelight with an extremely alpha ICS Port

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

Add one more device to  the list of those receiving Ice Cream Sandwich attention from developers of the XDA community. The guilty party responsible for this port is nickholtus, and the device in question is the Xperia Play — a handheld game console smartphone produced by Sony Ericsson. Under the Xperia smartphone brand running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the device is the first device to be part of the PlayStation Certified program which means that it can play PlayStation Suite games. This news comes to us fresh on the heels of our earlier report that the original Motorola DROID got a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

finally we have ICS fully booted on the xperia play!!

This is a very alpha build!!

Most things doesn’t work for now but this is the begin.

Working:
It’s boots!
Toucscreen
Data

Doesn’t work:
Almost everything
Wifi
Bluetooth
only landscape
Can’t mount usb
and a lot more

As for the port itself, it’s far from being a daily driver, but patience is the key — I have faith in our development community will overcome any and all obstacles in due time. If you’d like to get in on all the action and give Ice Cream Sandwich an early look on your Xperia Play, head over to the ROM thread and read up before doing anything else.
