Google’s new YouTube Kids app has been delivered to the Play Store today as previously promised. The new kids geared app brings in a slew of educational and fun content for our kids to access without parents needing to worry about them being derailed by videos they shouldn’t really be watching.
The app highlights videos from top children-focused channels, like Dreamworks, Sesame Street and Thomas & Friends. Our lovely children can search the app on their own by typing or by voice. Parents fear not as the app has a laundry list of blacklisted terms and words and is strictly pulling approved content. The app goes a little further a few minor settings and the ability to set a timer so your child doesn’t spent the whole day watching Barney & Friends.
The UI is extremely slimmed down with large buttons at the top for kids to check out shows, music, learning and one to explore additional content. When they do open a video you can be confident that it will be exactly what they clicked on. It is pretty nice and seems to be much faster than the traditional YouTube app. It even keeps comments off the content so your kids aren’t blasted by moron comments. Interestingly enough I don’t see any Chromecast support. I certainly hope Google gets that added to the mix, for both parents and kids.
