YU Yunicorn with 5.5-inch display, Helio P10 SoC, and 4GB RAM launched in India

YU, a subsidiary of India’s Micromax, was an instant hit and gave competition to OnePlus. Its smartphones ran Cyanogen OS out of the box, and offered high-end specifications for the price. However, the company now has ended its partnership with Cyanogen to launch its own AOS (Android on Steroids) based on Android Marshmallow.

YU has now launched its new mid-range smartphone, the Yunicorn, with a 5.5-inch Full HD resolution, brushed aluminium back, and 2.5D arc glass. Under the hood, there is a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 1.95GHz. Coming to its camera, there’s a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-tone LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Its the first YU Smartphone to come with YU OS. The Yunicorn runs on YU OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and we can expect it to be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the near future. The device also support DTS sound quality.

The device comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.  Its physical home button has an embedded fingerprint sensor. YU has packed a massive 4,000 mAh battery, and the company says it can deliver four days of usage. It is a dual-SIM device with support for 4G LTE and offers basic connectivity features.

The device will be available through flash sale on Flipkart, which will be starting at 2 PM today. It is priced at INR 12,999 ($193.33), and will give competition to the Redmi note 3 and Meizu m3 note in same price range.
