Everyone has heard of Zagg Invisible Shield products at one time or another; maybe you’ve even put a Zagg skin on your device. If you’re one of those who thought a no-name skin was just as good, I have a warning for you. You are so very wrong.
Zagg’s Invisible Shield is made of a military-grade material that has self-healing properties to protect against scratches, a claim they back up with a lifetime guarantee. In addition to the everyday skin, Zagg is also developing a fully waterproof skin, using what they call HzO technology, to protect your devices from not just a splash, but full immersion in liquid.
The HzO technology used for consumer electronics produces a vacuum deposited film that is water repellent, nonflammable, has low toxicity, and allows for electricity conduction under the thin film coating. When applied to clean, moisture free surfaces such as plastic, metal, or glass, the coating is transparent with excellent water repellence and anti-corrosion properties. The coating also has an excellent ability to repel oils, synthetic fluids, hazardous materials, dust, dirt, and water based solutions.
While I highly doubt many people will be taking their phones along for some water sports, it could be good for those where the potential for a water hazard is there. It’s great that Zagg is making strides towards safeguarding devices against those accidents that can otherwise ruin a good phone. In case you doubt Zagg’s promises, have a look at these demonstration videos.
While the waterproof skin is still in development, you can find Invisible Skins on just about any Android device from the G1 to the HTC Evo.
