Although this is primarily an Android blog with the occasional spin-off to other technologies, there was something about this story I heard on the radio this morning that I couldn’t pass up. So many of our readers, fellow bloggers and friends are proud parents. We sacrifice everything to give our kids the best life we can offer. We want them to be happy and healthy. Unfortunately that isn’t always what happens.
During the Kidd Kraddick morning show this morning, one lucky caller received $1000 dollars because her last four digits on her credit card matched for a promotion they call ‘credit card roulette’. They announced 3 people and the first one to call in would win the $1000 dollars cash.  The lucky recipient was Vickie Ortiz. This isn’t what makes this story so compelling. When she was asked what she was going to do with the money she told Kidd that she will use it to buy more supplies to make Zoey’s Bows to help out a family whose daughter had just passed away. That stopped the excitement of the prize in a real hurry. Instead of Kidd saying something about how wonderful that is, he gave her another $1000 for the family and then a $1000 for her to keep for her self for taking the time out of her life to help a family in need.
The little girl was only 5 years old when she passed away. Her name was Emmy. She had septicemia from a UTI and was hospitalized for 3 weeks.  Her mother finally had to take her daughter off life support. Emmy fought for one more week before she passed away. The funeral is today.
I know this is far from our usual posts. Having kids in your life can change how a story effects you. I could never imagine losing any of my kids. This may not be a huge benefit for a large organization. The Android community has helped rise a lot of money for charity and to help when ever possible. There is no reason we as a community can’t help support people in a positive way.
This small story is only a fraction of what happens in the world to thousands of people a day. I am not telling you this story to make you feel terrible or heart-broken. My main goal is to do everything in our power to help out a family that suffered a tragic loss of a beautiful child at a very early age. I am also doing it to prove to the world that one person can make a difference in the lives of others by opening their heart and being human.
You can find the official Facebook page for donating directly to Emmy’s family – HERE – You can also visit Vickie’s site at Zoeys.Bows to purchase bows to help support them too. If offering anything to the family is out of your reach, please retweet or share this with as many people as you know. Help make a positive change in someones else’s life.
