Facebook is in talks to buy the social map/navigation app, Waze. In a deal that could reach the $1 Billion mark, is Facebook looking for another Instagram-esque deal to bolster it’s line of services?
Waze is a well known social mapping/navigation app for smartphones. Â It collects data from you and other users while you drive to inform you and other users of traffic jams, road works, police stops etc.
Facebook and Waze already work together to give the navigation app some added social features, so brokering a deal shouldn’t be too difficult.  Waze has already been the subject of takeover rumours, notably Apple and Google, but neither panned out, with the former licencing Wazes’ maps to supplement their own.
The Israeli company has most of its employees based in Israel, with only 11 in America.  As such the deal currently hinges on where the staff, particularly the R & D department, are going to be located after the deal.
This deal, should it go ahead, would enable Facebook to know even more about where you are, who you’re with, where you’re going and where you’ve been.
