LG’s Google TVs to upgrade to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

LG Google TV to get Android 4.2.2
LG has recently announced that their line of Google TV integrated TVs will soon be gaining a new software update that moves the smart TVs to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in the 3rd quarter of this year. That is still a long ways off to be making a promise and announcement to me. However, it is nice to see some manufacturers seeing the benefits of Google TV integration and the importance of keeping the software somewhat up to date.

“In addition to enabling users to enjoy advanced Android apps, the latest OS will also provide developers with new opportunities in the Smart TV arena,” Havis Kwon, president of LG‘s home entertainment business, said in a statement.

LG only started selling Google TV integrated sets in 2012 and they declined to comment on the number of GTV’s they have sold. Research firm IHS iSuppli predicted last month that overall TV shipments will decline a second year in a row this year. Dropping from 37.6 million in 2012 to 36.6 million in 2013. My theory behind the decline is pretty simple, why spend $1,000+ on a new TV, when the HD TV you bought 3 years ago still works just fine. With mobile devices being able to connect, sync and stream your content to the TV you have now, plus the affordable Google TV set-top boxes from Vizio and the likes, why spend more?

Anyone out there actually have a LG with Google TV integrated TV?
