Rovio has teased on their site that there is “big news” coming on July 15th. The news looks to relate to the Angry Birds franchise, and judging by the picture they’ve teased, it’s most likely a prequel game of some sort for Angry Birds Star Wars. Rovio says that they are going to talk about “the biggest character line-up ever, awesome new powers, and maybe even a few surprises”. Hopefully it’s not like the actual Star Wars prequels…
It’s hard to imagine why Rovio continues to pump out Angry Birds games; there’s only so many times you can refresh characters and powers before it becomes stale, if it isn’t already. Even with the new Rovio Stars publishing initiative, as TechCrunch points out, Rovio is struggling to get rid of its synonymity with Angry Birds, so while they figure that out, perhaps it makes sense to keep doing what they have done best.
