One of the newest touted features of the new Moto X phone is its Active Display, allowing notifications to be display on-screen in a low powered manner with no need for any LEDs. This is a great feature for a number of reasons, not least of all being able to see exactly what notifications you have received. Obviously, not everybody is jumping at the Moto X right now with its ‘underpowered’ processor and AMOLED screen, but what if you want those Active Display features without splurging on a Moto X?
ActiveNotifications is a new app from XDA member niko001 who has got the function working currently for devices running Android 4.3 and AMOLED screens, much like the Moto X. As far as devices that have this natively, this list includes only the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, however if you have an AMOLED screen and an Android 4.3 ROM, you could also give this a go. niko001 says that a version for older Android builds will be considered if there is enough interest, which I daresay there just might be.
If you’re interested in picking up the app, you can hit the Play Store link at the bottom of this article. Are you going to try ActiveNotifications out? And are there any other Moto X features you wish you could have on your smartphone? Let us know what you think.
