Stranger Things Have Happened: Nexus One Gets Android 4.4 KitKat

Nexus One gets android 4.4 kitkatWe always knew that Android 4.4 KitKat came with the ability to work on devices with only 512MB of RAM, but we didn’t see this coming so soon. Some clever fellows over at XDA have managed to get Android 4.4 working on a Nexus One. Yes, that’s right: the Google Nexus One.

Despite a few known issues involving boot loops, camera use and not being able to take screenshots, this achievement really is a testament to Android’s newest software build and further reinforces the idea that Android 4.4 can potentially work wonders and decrease the fragmentation of the Android ecosystem. Probably more exciting for owners of the Nexus One, who have likely moved on from the 3-year-old device, is that they can break out their old One and see how it works with the newest build of Android.

It’s obviously a work in progress, but if you have a Nexus One and you want to try this ROM, you can hit the source link to go to the XDA forum page. It’s almost surreal typing “Nexus One gets Android 4.4 KitKat”; who’s going to try this ROM? Let us know in the comments.
