“If Huawei gets in the middle of U.S-China relations,†and causes problems, “it’s not worth it,†Ren reportedly said, according to a Chinese transcript of the interview. “Therefore, we have decided to exit the U.S. market, and not stay in the middle.â€
Exiting the US market will take its toll on Huawei being that it is one of the largest markets for them. Part of the Softbank/Sprint deal both decided they would start to “phase out” equipment from Huawei as part of their merger agreement.
While you might not be able to name a Huawei device off the top of your head, but there have been a number of them out there like the MediaPad Vogue 7 . Mostly the US devices were mid to low end devices that were free or extremely inexpensive for consumers. Including various tablets, phones and internet sticks. They filled a gap and a need in the market. With Huawei leaving US shores, that leaves room for the larger manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony to fill the gap and continue their dominance.
