Verizon To Follow AT&T With Tiered Data Plan Later In 2010?

Could this be the end of Unlimited data plans as a whole? As AT&T recently decided to withdraw their unlimited data plan and designated a tiered data plan based on data usage, it seems like their biggest rival may soon follow later in 2010 around the launch of Verizon’s 4G LTE. Verizon has been testing their LTE network in Boston and other locations and said they are trying to reach over 100 million users by the end of 2010.

“We will probably need to change the design of our pricing where it will not be totally unlimited, flat rate,” John Killian, chief financial officer of Verizon.

Verizon is not expecting to launch LTE handsets this year but we could possible look for LTE modems later this year. Right now there is no official word from Verizon sharing potential tiered plans nor pricing for these plans, but they have hinted enough that we could look forward to as we arrive closer to the launch of LTE.
