Looks like the Amazon Fire TV has picked up a new app today for all you streaming junkies. Amazon has just announced that HBO GO is now available for the Fire TV, of course you do need to have a HBO subscription, or access to someone who does, on one of the supported cable or satellite providers in order to utilize it. That is headed in the breeze in due time though as HBO plans to offer up standalone access to the content via their app in the future.
“Since launch we’ve increased the number of services available on Amazon Fire TV by more than 4x,” said Peter Larsen, Vice President Amazon Devices. “We’re thrilled to add HBO GO, the most requested service, to Fire TV in time for the holidays. HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking and award-winning TV shows and movies, and we are excited to bring this amazing content to our customers, all of which is accessible via voice search on your Fire TV remote.”
Unfortunately HBO GO is only available for the Amazon Fire TV, not the Amazon Fire TV Stick. It will however make an appearance on the less expensive version of Amazon’s media devices sometime this spring.
The Amazon Fire TV device is still on special from Amazon for $79.99, that is $20 off the usual $99.99 price tag. It comes with the small box and the voice command remote control for extra awesomeness. Below are the quick access links to both the Fire TV and to the HBO GO app for it. Yes, the app is free.
