Kodak is teaming up with Bullitt to design a Kodak smartphone for launch at CES 2015

The name Kodak has been synonymous with one thing in the many years that the brand has existed: photos. So it might be a little interesting to hear that the image-first brand is dipping its toes into the mobile industry with the help of seasoned mobile manufacturer, Bullitt, to design a Kodak smartphone. There’s no telling what the device might look like (and we’re hoping it’s not like the image above), but we’re assuming that Kodak is hoping to cash in on the recent selfie craze that has seen the customization of several handsets specifically to cater for this.

In fact, Bullitt CEO, Oliver Schulte, alluded to some of this functionality in the press release, saying “Kodak is one of the world’s most recognisable brands. It is trusted by consumers as a marque of quality and innovation. We’ve taken that heritage and used it to inspire a range of beautifully designed devices that will let users take great pictures and edit, share, store and print them in an instant.”

That kind of just describes a smartphone, but Schulte goes on to talk about how the Kodak smartphone will use the Android OS and emphasizes the device’s ease-of-use. It’s hard to tell whether this means Kodak and Bullitt will opt for a forked version of Android, or a heavily customized Android experience, but we won’t have long to wait and see as Kodak is promising to have the handset available at its booth at CES 2015 in just a few weeks. Kodak is clearly on a new warpath as it is also promising a 4G handset, tablet and connected camera sometime in a future, and we’re pretty interested to see how this pans out for the imaging company.
