OnePlus is the kind of company that needs no introduction. Despite only launching one device so far in its short life, the OnePlus One, it’s weathered many highs and lows that some other companies dream of having - and some mistakes that other companies are glad they haven’t made. One of those things that many consider a mistake is the invite system, OnePlus’ method of managing inventory that requires each prospective buyer acquire an invite from someone who’s already purchased the OnePlus One. While decent in theory, it’s turned out to be difficult for the average Tom, Dick and Harry to get their hands on the device. On January 20th, however, all that anguish ends as OnePlus is allowing you to buy a OnePlus One without an invite, albeit only for two hours.
Yes, unfortunately, this is another of OnePlus’ ‘pre-order‘ days where they gather a number of orders for several hours and subsequently return to the invite system – obviously, we would prefer to never see the invite system again. But if you are in the market for this phone, those two hours could be a godsend as it negates the need to go scrounging forums for someone nice enough to give you their invite. In the interests of keeping their servers stable, OnePlus has scheduled three windows for specific regions to get online and ordering: Asia between 19:00-21:00 HKT, Europe between 19:00-21:00 GMT, and North America between 19:00-21:00 EST. OnePlus has even been kind enough to create a webpage with a countdown timer to help pass the time.
