Huawei announces the Huawei Mate 8, featuring the new Kirin 950 processor

We were wondering when Huawei‘s next flagship was going to turn up – we almost suspected Huawei had put too much effort into making the Nexus 6P a masterpiece, but thankfully all is well. Huawei today announced its latest flagship device, the Huawei Mate 8, which perhaps most symbolically drops the “Ascend” naming convention. Referred to only as the Mate 8, the device has one major party trick, which is that it houses Huawei’s new Kirin 950 processor. Apart from being a performance powerhouse, Huawei also alleges that the Kirin 950 allows from some pretty impressive power conservation, saving 30% battery life as compared to its already-impressive predecessor, the Ascend Mate 7.

Aside from the processor, the Mate 8 continues the tradition of Huawei’s flagship devices in being a giant – the Mate 8 houses a 6-inch, 1080p display. The remaining hardware is made up of either 3 or 4GB RAM, 32/64/128GB storage, 8MP front camera, 16MP rear camera and a pretty ginormous 4,000mAh battery as well. Oh, and the Mate 8 will be running Android Marshmallow as well. The pricing of the Mate 8 starts at Â¥2999, or around $469 USD, for the 32GB version, ranging up to Â¥4399, or $689 USD, for the 128GB version, but it won’t be officially sold till Q1 2016 in China with a global announcement at CES 2016 in January.
