The release of the Exynos 7420 by Samsung this year showed that the chipset part of the Korean manufacturer’s business is deadly serious when it comes to processor performance – and it looks like the upcoming Exynos 8890 is no different. The previous high score on any AnTuTu benchmark was 94,000, achieved by the recently announced Huawei Mate 8, powered by the brand-spanking new Kirin 950 processor. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Exynos 8890 has blown that record out of the water, scoring 103,692 in a leaked benchmark found on the AnTuTu database.
Now we know that benchmarks aren’t necessarily a good indication of day-to-day usage and we know that Samsung isn’t always 100% honest when it comes to benchmarking performance on their devices, but at the very least, it looks like the Exynos 8890 is going to have what it takes to hang it with the best of the best in the coming new year – again, to nobody’s real surprise. The Exynos 8890 is expected to feature in Samsung’s flagships in 2016 so we can’t wait to see if this lab-specific performance can be replicated in daily usage.
