For the longest time, Android users have come to expect that Developer Previews are pretty much the exclusive realm of Nexus devices. But according to an interesting HTML code snippet on the Android N Preview page, that might be about to change (officially). According to Reddit user FUNExtreme who made the discovery, the snippet below can be spotted – in it, below the “What’s New” heading, is the suggestion that the Android N Developer Preview might be coming to “more supported devices, including devices from OEM partners”. That’s right:Â “OEM partners”.
Even curiouser is the line that follows “seamless OTAs for your devices, from initial release to final N release without flashing”. What I suspect this means is that the Developer Preview could be presented in a OS-within-an-OS manner, not unlike how Ubuntu packages can run on PCs without actually overwriting the operating system, allowing any device to run Android N before the final version is released. This would allow OEMs to customize the look of their Preview, without needing to have a fully completed update. Of course, we could be wrong, but however this ends up being implemented sounds exciting for everyone. Win-win.
