Motorola has updated their Android software list and it looks like there are some who might be a little upset. One of the advantages of purchasing a high-end device is that the device will always see the next firmware upgrade. High-end devices run much better specs than the entry-level devices and the manufacturer and carrier simply don’t want to waste their time showing some update love to these devices, which we’ve seen Samsung and T-Mobile do to the Samsung Behold II. Below is the updated list of devices that will be seeing Android 2.1 or Android 2.2.
- Motorola BackFlip
- Upgrade to Android 2.1 planned for Q3
- Motorola CLIQ
- Upgrade to Android 2.1 – testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4
- Motorola CLIQ XT
- Upgrade to Android 2.1 – testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4
- Motorola Devour
- Will not have a software upgrade to Android 2.1
- Motorola Droid
- Upgrade to Android 2.2 currently rolling out in phases
- Motorola Droid X
- Upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for late summer.
For those of you who currently have the Motorola Devour, I regret to inform you that you will not be seeing Android 2.1 Éclair, I recommend that you upgrade your device to the Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid X if you would like the very latest in firmware upgrades. BackFlip and CLIQ/XT owners, the upgrade is coming you’ll just have to wait a little longer than expected.
