Android Market Applications Now Over 80k

In the press release unveiling the T-Mobile G2, we learned that the Android Market has grown from just 50 applications 2 years ago to over 80,000 today. Google’s Vice President of engineering Andy Rubin shared a few words about Android innovation and even offered up some numbers to show the growth of the Android Market. If you’ve been keeping up, that’s 10,000 more apps than we learned of in July.

“One of the advantages of an open platform is the opportunity for developers to create rich mobile experiences and seamlessly get those experiences into the hands of consumers,” said Andy Rubin, vice president, engineering, Google. “From new services, such as Voice Actions, to mobile applications, developer-led Android innovation is flourishing. On Android Market alone, the number of applications available to consumers has grown from just 50 applications two years ago to more than 80,000 applications today.”

As Android devices are being launched, it’s good to know that application development has continued to keep up. We can look in the market today and find a lot of spam applications and as we know quality holds more weight than quantity, but adding an average of 10,000 new apps a month is one more sign to see that Android is continuing to grow at an amazing rate.
