Just like me, you’re all waiting with baited breath for the release of a fully fledged Android 2.0 (Eclair) for your phone. In the mean time, what is currently available?
There are currently 2 ROMs released based on the Android 2.0 (Eclair) source that should be mentioned, these are:
x3 ROM – Eclair/AOSP basic build – Compiled by CCyrowski
( More info and downloads at MikeTaylor00’s AndroidStory Developer Homepage )This ROM is being created a team of developers your all familiar with; CCyrowski, Manup456,and MikeTaylor00. I have nothing against Jubeh who has the other ROM in this I just don’t know his work so don’t really have an opinion. I will say that this ROM is being created by a very talented crew and I would expect big things from these guys very soon.
Android2.0_AOSP_Master for Dream
( More info and downloads at Jubeh’s AndroidStory Developer Homepage )Jubeh has taken a clever approach by not only providing this build based on the AOSP 2.0 source but also including a series of add-ons and fixes that will make it more functional. Many of the fixes and add-ons are taken from the DROID.
Of course Cyanogen is also known to be working on the Android 2.0 (Eclair) source and will hopefully spring a surprise on use soon…
From everything I have read (as I haven’t tried these ROMs myself yet), they have the same common flaw…..No real video support and Google sync will not work. I have read that the Microsoft Exchange support is fully working and will sync your contacts from your Microsoft Exchange Server. These ROMs are both considered Beta status and probably shouldn’t be used for your every day phone.
Jubeh does have some workarounds that can get the Google kinda functional.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get more progress on the Android 2.0 (Eclair) progress.
If you know of any other Android 2.0 (Eclair) ROMs that are out there, please let us know.
