MIUI ROM for Desire and Nexus One. The Best of Everything from the Chinese!

Funny thing is, only yesterday I stumbled across a post on XDA talking about a ROM from China called MIUI that is apparently a new, one of a kind experience.  Today I see that our friends over at Android Central have also latched on to the ROM and posted a small teaser.

Twice in 2 days this ROM has lept in front of me so I thought I’d better see what its all about.  You can find more info for yourself on the official MIUI site at www.miui.com.

The developers have taken the best parts of most other operating system and come up with what appears to be a amazing piece of work.  Unfortunately, a majority of the interface is in Chinese but there is enough in English to be able to get around and play a little.

The current version is still far from a daily use ROM, and the developer freely admits this, but work continues and I can see this being a big hit especially if we can get some US developers involved and provide more English support.

It appears that the ROM has been mostly custom built using only the base from Android 2.2 and then building an exceptional interface on top that could beat anything else that currently exists.

From full FM radio support to completely customizable home screens, dedicated buttons on the lock screen that take you to the SMS app and the phone dialer.  They really have done an great job of taking the best features from other phones and operating systems and integrate them all in one ROM.

The developers have released a 4:30 minute video showing the main features.  You will note that they have increased the speed of the video so it does look a little weird. Not sure if this was done to show off all the features in short period of time or make the ROM look faster than it is. You can decide.

You can also find a nice overview of the current features in this MIUI forum that you can also read in English using Google translate.  Makes it a little easier for us English speakers.
