As many of you may already know, Google code names every new version of its Android platform after pastries or desserts. The company has placed various large sculptures in the form of a cupcake, donut, eclair, and frozen yogurt next to the giant Android mascot, “Andy”, at their headquarters to commemorate their respective version release for the platform.
Well, check out what Google just baked! The Gingerbread man is fresh out of the oven (with gumdrop buttons too!) and has been delivered to the Googleplex! This means that the release of Android 2.3 might not be too far away.
The unboxing of the official mascot for Android 2.3 was spotted on YouTube. Check it out below!
Google has not officially mentioned much about the next generation of Android, code-named Gingerbread, scheduled for launch this quarter. Features of this version include support for WebM video playback as well as improved copy-paste functionalities and social networking features.
The next version scheduled for release after Android 2.3 is Honeycomb (Android 3.0) – scheduled to be released in 2011.
Stay tuned for some more Gingerbread madness!
