Adobe is set to officially release the newest version of Adobe AIR at the Adobe MAX Conference in Los Angeles today. The newest version, AIR 2.5,  will include some major updates to the Android platform and also bring the runtime platform to a wide range of smartphones and tablets including BlackBerry’s Tablet OS, Macintosh and Linux operating systems. This update will also bring AIR to Android-based tablets and TV devices.
AIR 2.5 features include:
- Geolocation and accelerometer support
- Access to camera and video applications
- Multi-touch and gesture support
- 50% faster JavaScript engine
One of the talked about features is the ability to run P2P video chatting applications such as FlashTime. All of these features are essential components for mobile apps, so it’s no surprise the new version of AIR arrives with these upgrades.
In addition to AIR 2.5, Adobe is launching its own multi-platform App Store for its AIR apps called the Adobe InMarket. Currently it’s available for Intel’s AppUP, but Android and other platforms are likely to follow.
