T-Mobile MyTouch 4G get some unofficial CyanogenMod 6.1 love with Alpha1 Release

For the past few weeks, #teamdouche member kmobs has been working diligently to port CyanogenMod 6.1 to the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G. Unfortunately, he has had a few problems getting the ROM to fruition, as described in the XDA-Developers release post:

As I’m sure many of you are aware, I’m currently having an issue with my mytouch acquisition. I just want to set the record straight: A friend of mine bought me a Mytouch4g for extremely cheap (can’t give specifics) and sold it do me at cost. While it was in transit, I had a lot of spare time so I picked up one from the T-mobile store for full price. I planned on remorsing (returning) the full price one to T-mobile as soon as I received my cheap one. However, my cheap one was either stolen or never delivered. UPS claims that it was delivered, however, there was no knock on my door. I’ve decided to release this rom while I return my current mytouch to T-Mobile and get the whole claim with UPS sorted out. I do not wish to accept donations if you are hoping that I will pick another device up. If you wish to donate to me, please do so for the work I have done, not the work that may or may not come in the future. (IE: no strings attached <3)

Nonetheless, kmobs and #teamdouche deliver once again with the release of CyanogenMod 6.1 Alpha1 for the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G. Now while this ROM is still in an Alpha stage of development with a few issues still glooming over the horizon (listed below), in most cases this ROM is ready for daily use.

Known issues:

  • The video issue. This affects any type of video playback (camera preview included) What occurs is that there is some issue with buffering the video that I haven’t been able to track down but the result is that the frames freeze on the screen.
  • Bluetooth – I honestly haven’t spent much (any) time on this issue because I’ve been working on the video issue
  • FFC force closes when trying to record video – I just need to add an XML so the camera app learns how to interact with the FFC while recording video (easy fix)

A disclaimer also appears stating in bold DO NOT REPORT BUGS as the CyanogenMOD team does not release roms that are not fully functional; oh and a wipe is required for this test build. This also does not include any Google Apps but a separate link is provided for the download.

So, if you have your MyTouch 4G rooted and handy, make sure to give this Alpha version CyanogenMod 6.1 a try!
