Pandora Slapped with a Subpoena?

According to a recent article by the Wall Street Journal, one of the most popular music streaming applications, Pandora, may be in a bit of trouble. Pandora has said they were issued a subpoena in “early 2011”, but neglected to release any information regarding the reasoning behind it. They also stated that they were “not a specific target of investigation.” It seems that there may be some idea as to what these legal allegations could be about though.

An article written in the Wall Street Journal in December accused Pandora, along with many other applications available to iPhone and Android users, of transmitting information about their users including locations to outside companies and advertising networks. Of course nothing has been officially reported, however when a spokeswoman from Pandora was confronted with these accusations she declined to comment.

While we’re not in anyway saying anyone’s guilty either way it’s rather troubling news. Im an avid Pandora listener, in fact Im listening to it now and even paid for the “Pandora One” service. Hopefully the facts regarding this are not as they seem, as I would imagine it would lead a more than a few upset fans, including myself. [Thanks, @iiamdaren]
