An Interface Designed for Podcast Perfection
Upon launching Pocket Casts, you’ll notice the menu bar across the bottom of your screen that includes five icons: Library, Currently Playing, Newly Available Episodes, Search, and Settings.
Discovering Podcasts Just for You
You’ll initially want to build your library, so the Search icon is a good place to start. Use the Search bar if you already know what you’re looking for. If you want to explore, Pocket Casts has some stellar recommendations.
Peruse the Popular Podcasts section to see what other people are listening to, or go into the Browse Categories option and search by topic. Click on a podcast that interests you, read the brief description, and tap the Add button if you would like it in your Library.
Look around in the Podcast Networks option, and add podcasts from your favorite networks. You’ll find anything and everything from ESPN and BBC, to NPR and FrogPants Studios.
You can also add podcasts by URL, or use OPML podcast import.
Your Podcast Library
Tap the Library icon to view thumbnails of your podcasts. A small red box shows the number of episodes you’ve not yet listened to next to each podcast. Tap the thumbnail to view the available episodes, including date of release, a brief description, length, and file size. Here, you have the option to download and listen.
Save Your Spot
The Currently Playing menu option always displays the episode you’re currently listening to. It’s easy to return to the right episode, exactly where you left off.
Never Miss a New Episode
The Newly Available icon on your menu keeps you current. This menu option displays all of the newly available episodes, with descriptions, under the podcast title. Enable notifications in the Status bar if you like, or have your phone vibrate when one is available. They are always there waiting for you–convenient, reliable, and ready when you are.
Settings and Download Details
You’ll like this part. Instantly refresh up to 100 podcast in the same time it takes other apps to do one. Shifty Jelly, the developers of Pocket Casts, use their servers to monitor your feeds, so your phone doesn’t have to. In the Settings, choose how frequently you want to refresh your podcasts and where you would like to store them–SD card or phone memory. Stream or download without file size limits with 3G or Wi-Fi network access.
Free up space automatically by altering your Episode Cleanup options. Choose to remove played episodes, or remove all downloaded episodes at once.
