Lynch mobs have always been a part of our society. Be it due to color, race, looks or beliefs, Some group somewhere will always make do everything they can to force you to their ways. Carriers are no different in my opinion. Lat week we announced that AT&T would be adding features to customers accounts that were using their Android device as a mobile HotSpots or tethered modem. Verizon is following suite and advising that if you are using the feature of your device with out the proper added cost added to you bill, they will let you know.
If you have been using this ever growing and popular feature, you will be redirected this week to Verizon’s site and offered a feature to continue using it. Â The tethering feature will set you back another $20 bucks a month and will be required if you wish to continue to use it. At least they aren’t going to just add it to your account like AT&T plans to.
I read a comment on another site a few days ago after investigating this new move by carriers. The gentle man gave one of the best analogies I have heard to date. ” Charging for tethering is like the water company charging me extra because I let a friend take a shower, or offered them a glass of water. I pay for water, its not the water companies business how I use it. I pay for internet on my device, who are they to tell me how I can use it?” I agree 100%.
I know I am not alone in my feelings. That doesn’t change the fact that the carriers have every right to proceed however they see fit. No matter how disgusted or irate we become, fact of the matter is you will pay for it or not use it.
