Calling all Minecraft wizards! “Building for Kristen” contest underway, win a trip to NYC

We have all seen Minecraft hit the various Android sites and tech blogs. It was once just a Xperia Play exclusive and has now recently been released to the Android market for all to enjoy. Although not all devices are fully supported yet. It also has a pretty hefty price tag of $7.03. Thankfully the demo version is available to test on your device before you shell out the big bucks for a game that might not work.

In conjunction with the launch of the game to the market, Sony Ericsson is sponsoring a Minecraft building contest. Comedian and Minecraft newbie Kristen Schaal, wants you building geniuses to build her the palace of her dreams. The contest will run from today, Oct 7th through Nov 7th, 2011. You will need to direct yourself over to Sony Ericcson USA Facebook page and click the like button to get access to the competition. You will then be able to submit your monument for viewing pleasure and entry and you can also view the other entries as well.

Atlanta, GA – October 7, 2011 – Are you a budding Minecraft™architect dying to showcase your construction skills to the world? Then get ready for the build of your life.

Today, Sony Ericsson issued a challenge to the Minecraft community to build something extraordinary for comedian and Minecraft newbie Kristen Schaal. The winner will win a trip to New York to meet Kristen while claiming Minecraft master bragging rights.

“We know there’s a dedicated Minecraft community out there and by issuing this challenge, we’ll see how they showcase their creativity and skills for the ultimate Minecraft building project,” said Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing, North America at Sony Ericsson. “I can’t wait to see what kind of captivating designs and pixelations the North American Minecraft community create for Kristen.”

“I’ve always had a soft spot for gamers, so the chance to do something with Xperiaâ„¢ PLAY gamers, and Minecraft gamers in particular, was something that I was totally into,” said Kristen Schaal, comedian and Minecraft newbie. “Plus, I am looking forward to having the world’s largest collection of giant, pixelated buildings.”

The “Build for Kristen” contest starts October 7, 2011 and will run through November 7, 2011. A representative of Mojang, the indie game developer studio based in Stockholm, Sweden that created Minecraft, will be part of the judging process.
