Are you extreme enough to handle the extreme trial of Trial Xtreme? It’s hard to think of many games I’d class as a racing/platformer but how else do you pigeonhole a game where you jump a bike across platforms to a finish line? Even though you are riding on a bike there’s undoubtedly more platforming here than there is racing. Your time is unlimited and you’ll be twisting your Android device from side to side trying to keep your balance, as you jump around obstacles while trying not to break your face into a low beam.
Getting around some of the tracks can be tricky; tilting your device leans the rider back or forward on the bike, you’ll also have controls to accelerate, break and jump. Getting to the end of the track isn’t about speeding to the end and lining up your landings, but more about climbing over obstacles in any way you can which thanks to the unique physics can require some creative approaches. To complete a level you’ll need the right balance of speed and angle and this can take quite some practice, even the earlier levels can be very frustrating when you fail at the same area over and over with a checkpoint further back than you’d like. Fortunately restarting at the previous checkpoint is quick and you’ll be drawn into trying the same area again and you’ll find yourself doing just that little bit better with practice until you beat the level.
Even though the movement is kept strictly two dimensional the graphics are all rendered in 3D rather than using sprites. The graphics not only move really well and look clean but are also great fun to watch when the rider turns into a ragdoll and tumbles off the bike into an awkward and painful pose.
Trial Xtreme 2 HD is a simple game at heart but it can also be a frustrating challenge at times when a minor mistake has you repeatedly trying to climb over an obstacle, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t keep pulling you back for a quick attempt to beat your and you friend’s best time.
