Guns N’Glory WW2 is a newer game from Handy Games that takes the somewhat over-done genre of tower defense, adds some real-time-strategy (RTS) elements and delivers some great cartoon WW2 action! Ever since the days of Warcraft II and Starcraft I’ve been a RTS fan. There’s something about watching a bunch of units destroy each other on a map.
Most tower defense games make you place stationary towers at strategic locations, the bad guys travel along the path and if they’re not all eliminated by the end you loose lives. Guns N’Glory is similar in that the bad guys travel down paths and there are waves that you have to overcome, but it resembles RTS games in almost every other way. For one the towers are units that are moveable. You can move them by dragging your finger or by tapping where you want them to go. Secondly the bad guys shoot back at you and attempt to kill your units. And lastly you are defending your base, not merely trying to keep the bad-guys from reaching the end of the map.
The maps are noteworthy as well. They have elevation, trees, buildings, rocks and water. All of which play into the strategy of where you place your units and how you move them from place to place since the waves come from different corners of the map each time. There is also an RPG style point system that lets you upgrade your troops to make them bigger and badder.
Another great part of Guns N’Glory WW2 that sets it apart from other games in the Android market are the graphics. They are fun and really well done. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for cartoon styled WW2 anything. Battle Field Heros is one of my favorite games to play online and about 50% of that is because of the playful graphics and this game is no different. You can even pinch zoom in and out to give you more command over your troops.
