After multiple attempts from various government bodies to analyse and block the potentially monopolistic merger between AT&T and T-Mobile, it’s now reported that AT&T has withdrawn it’s FCC application in it’s attempt to takerover merge with T-Mobile and dominate the GSM cell phone market in the US.  We only recently reported that industry predictions were very low for the probability of this merger going through, and now it looks like they may be coming true.
TheVerge reported early this morning that after the FCC requested a formal administrative hearing into AT&Ts ambitious takeover of T-Mobile, AT&T decided to withdraw their application from the FCC to focus on the DOJ lawsuit first. Â While this is a big step backwards, it may be the last we hear of the merger.
Some of you may be happy about this desicion, but what you have to consider is that  T-Mobile USA’s parent company Deutsche Telekom has made it clear that they are no longer interested in the US operations and would still like to remove T-Mobile USA from its inventory.  This means that T-Mobile USA still needs to find another company to partner with or spin off into it’s own company.
