NTSB recommends ban on hands-free cell use, Transportation board says “No!”

It has been a crazy year in the U.S. So many new laws, bans and proposed laws that it almost makes a person’s head spin. All of you are well aware of the ban and law that prohibits you from texting or talking directly on your device while behind the wheel of your vehicle. It has started a lot of debates. Many people still do it, my self included, regardless of what the laws state. We are all aware that it is simply for our own safety, much like laws that require us to wear seat belts. Another topic all together. No doubt the ban prompted many to purchase Bluetooth headsets to be safe and keep from getting a ticket. Now we have a new one on the table from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The latest proposal wants to ban all cell phone use, hands-free or not. Essential making it illegal to do anything with your device while driving. U.S. Transportation secretary Ray LaHood said he will not issue a nationwide ban on hands-free use while driving. Hands-free phone calls are “not the big problem in America,” LaHood argued. ”If other people want to work on hands-free, so be it.”

If the ban somehow manages to get pushed through, it could really cause an uproar. Not just for those of us that already use it sparingly and attempt to be safe, but to big business as well. It could really hurt car manufacturers like Ford who have Ford Sync built into so many vehicles. Making that obsolete and illegal to use. Then you have others like On-Star that make calls for you too. You would be paying for a “loaded” vehicle, and a huge selling point in a lot of purchases, useless and illegal to use.

What a mess. What do you guys think about this newly proposed ban by the NTSB? Will it make it to national law or just die in the process? Let us know how you feel.
