5 to 7 new LTE devices headed to U.S. Cellular in 2012

When you think of LTE your mind probably wanders straight to Verizon, maybe AT&T, but usually not to a smaller carrier like U.S. Cellular. They aren’t to be underestimated though. They have some pretty great device offerings, great rate plans, amazing trade in options and some pretty stellar service, at least in my neck of the woods. U.S. Cellular has plans to launch anywhere from 5 to 7 new LTE devices through out 2012. They will include tablets, phones and possibly a data stick of some sorts.

It will be a little slow going sat first but should pick up later in the year. U.S. Cellular is committed to deploying LTE in 24 markets, which is 25% of the current footprint, in the first quarter of 2012. Originally customers were supposed to see this completed before the end of 2011 but the target date was obviously not met. If they had plans to launch the service last month, then that means they already have at least one device lined up to take advantage of it. We aren’t sure which device they might have boxed up and hanging out, but it will be a nice surprise for customers I am sure.

TDS CEO Ted Carlson (TDS is the parent company of U.S. Cellular) also added that in the wake of the T-Mobile/AT&T purchase collapse they are still very interested in buying up some more spectrum. Mainly looking at 700 MHz and increasing their holding of PCS and AWS spectrum as well.

Data speeds may be all the rage when it comes to the big boys, but over the last year or so I have been personally keeping a close eye on U.S Cellular. Especially when the T-Mobile deal started to make waves. Since the future of T-Mobile is still swaying in the balance, I haven’t put switching out of my mind completely. I just can’t see giving up more money to another major carrier that seems to just take advantage of its customers all the time.

Do we have any loyal U.S. Cellular customers out there? What is your take on the company’s service and ethics?
