Looks like Samsung is pushing ahead to continue to improve on their already well made products, which include high-end Android phones, by signing a new deal with Corning. Corning is well-known in the mobile device field for their Gorilla Glass which graces most of our high-end Android phones. The rumored name for this new glass is “Lotus Glass”. Here is a brief excerpt from the press release.
“Combining Corning’s Lotusâ„¢ Glass substrate technology and Samsung Mobile Display’s OLED display expertise, this new entity will be well-positioned to provide outstanding product solutions for current and future OLED technologies, from handheld and IT devices to large TVs and beyond.”
This new “Lotus” glass will provide a high quality substrate for OLED screens which will provide dimensional stability which is a good thing due to the high temperatures it takes to produce OLED screens. Samsung’s part is to provide the volume orders it takes to get this tech into the mobile market. There is also a clarification to be made in all this. “Lotus” glass is not a replacement for Gorilla Glass, there are some differences, especially in scratch resistance. It will be very interesting to see what Samsung and Corning have in mind for this new tech.  Hit the source link for the whole press release and story.
