Samsung Planning on Flexible AMOLED as soon as This Year

We reported last year (as well as showed pictures like the one above) that Samsung wanted to eventually have flexible AMOLED screens for their phones. Pretty mind blowing technology, but we did not know the exact time frame on when they would be out in the wild. We do now. Samsung’s Mobile Display’s assistant has confirmed that flexible AMOLEDs will be commercialized within a year. My guess would be that they are pushing for Christmas time. Old Saint Nick just might drop one off in your stocking if you are a good little Android geek.

Advantages of these flexible AMOLEDs would be the end of dreaded crack screens that could quickly ruin your night, no matter how drunk you are. The “contour curve” screens have already made appearances on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus S, and with screens getting larger, I am just wondering how flexible they will be.

You guys all for flexible AMOLEDs? Or will you remain true to flatness?
