Asus: Jelly Bean? We should be part of the first update Wave

Everyone talks about Android fragmentation almost everyday. With Gingerbread still being pushed out to some devices and Ice Cream Sandwich still in the works for many others. While everyone waits on the edge other seats for an update, there is already talk of Jelly Bean, Android 5.0. Not that we are at all surprised that Google already has something new in the works. With Jelly Bean focused for even better tablet support and notions that it will also be a full-blown version for the likes of netbooks, notebooks and maybe even desktop PC’s. How could we not be excited about it? Won’t help the complaints about outdated software before it even has a chance to get updated.

With all this talk of Jelly Beans, TechRadar did a little talking with Benson Lin, Asus‘ Corporate Vice President. He is extremely confident that they will be one of the first companies to start rolling Jelly Bean updates to their products.

“Asus is very close to Google, so once they have Android 5.0 I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update.”

That really isn’t too surprising. They pride themselves on their update ability. By killing of the need for tweaked out UI elements, keeping things simple, using great hardware and having no carrier restrictions to deal with, Asus has done well. They were on point to get ICS launched for the Prime, and the original Transformer picked up one just a little over a month later.

There are only two remaining questions left to be addressed though. First: When is Jelly Bean going to be released? Rumors and suggestions put it sometime this fall. Second: How soon after Jelly Bean do we hear about and see Kahlua cake (Android 6.0)? I like Kahlua cake for the next update name. I don’t think Key Lime Pie sounds as flashy, or as fun.

What do you guys think. Did Google already dig themselves a hole with updated OS version? Are we upset at Google, the manufacturers or the carriers for the slow update process? And finally, what is Android 6.0 gonna be called? You know they are already working on it, right?
