While, widgets may be a dime a dozen these days, the waters are often a bit muddied with options that aren’t really all that spectacular. It’s always nice to find that one gem waiting for you on Google Play and you sometimes even find yourself wondering, “Where has this app been all of my life?” That’s exactly how I felt when I stumbled onto Glass Widgets ICS, by Nicolai Buch-Andersen.
Glass Widgets ICS is a minimalist’s dream. This widget suite is built to take advantage of the amazing possibilities in Android’s tablet-centric versions, like Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. They are completely re-sizable and scrollable and include a ton of different customization features. Included in the suite are:
Glass Clock Widget
Enter any city name, or use geolocation to automatically detect your current time settings. This re-sizable widget can keep track of multiple cities’ time and weather information from anywhere in the world. Definitely a handy feature for someone who travels a lot, or even if you’re just planning a vacation to somewhere in a different time zone in the near future.
Glass Calendar Widget
This widget is re-sizable and scrollable, and can be used to see the current date, along with the next three events on your calendar. This is another handy feature for those of you who’re always on-the-go and have tons of important meetings to keep up with.
Glass News Widget
This feature is one that I really like. It’s probably my favorite out of the entire suite. With the re-sizable and scrollable Glass News Widget, you can read your favorite RSS/Atom feeds directly from your home screen. You can either use one of the pre-selected feeds the app already has installed, like BBC, Rueters, WIRED, etc, or you can also add your own custom feed. You can also set a default for which newsreader you’d like the widget to launch when you tap on it. I’ve got mine linked to Google Reader for quick access to all my important Android news feeds.
Glass All-In-One Widget
Last, but not least, we’ve got the all-in-one widget, which combines all of the previously mentioned widgets in one 4×3 widget. Super convenient access to everything you need in one place. What more could you ask for?
There is a free version of Glass ICS, as well as a paid version, with the difference being that the paid version allows you to change the widget transparency and background as you wish.
